I started to see some short to medium term fading on 72.4 kHz signal
in the 0500 to 0600 UTC time frame. The fading and signal levels were
about the same through 0730 UTC. |

We had severe static in my area Thursday due to local thunderstorms
nearby
but most of those storms dissipated after sundown so copy was good
using the Alesis 3630 limiter with ARGO. Same receiving setup as earlier
using the GPS locked R75 and Ratzlaff active whip antenna.

Your signal here was strong enough to see with QRSS3 bandwidth
through much of it. At 6:30 am local time it's still coming through with
both an e-probe and a 10' loop.

Copy last night wasn't quite as good, but there was still a readable
signal most of the night.
The fades are very deep and long, and there has been an hour-long fade
after sunset both nights. There is a similar fade in the morning, but it
seems longer. As of 9:15 AM EDT, the signal is still copyable. BTW - the
distance from you to my Maine QTH is 801 miles. |

... half or less than that during nightime hours. Welding goggle copy at
the moment over the 600 mile path. Based on limited observations, static
seems significatly stronger at night on 73 vs.137 kHz. |

Finally took a minute to check - and you were there instantly - Very
nice solid signal,
as other have reported. Excellent reception on mod. W1VD eprobe.
Slow drift is mine - just turned on R75 5 minutes before reception.

Very nice copy here at mid day. Time stamp is in UTC on the image.
Using a Yaesu FT-2000 with 300 hz dsp filter and with the peak cw
contour filter turned on. Really makes the signal pop.
